Do Mini Aussies make good family dogs?

Yes, definitely. Australian Shepherds of the miniature variety become incredibly devoted to their people. They enjoy, and need to be involved in, family activities. They are gentle with children, good with other pets, and readily trained. But as the Australian Shepherd has a strong working heritage, Mini Aussies often do best in families willing to spend time providing obedience training, exercise and who permit the dog to be part of the family. The standard calls for a dog of “strong herding and guardian instincts” and a “reserved” temperament. Because Mini Aussies tend to be extremely loyal to their families, not all should be expected to be outgoing toward strangers. Early socialization is of the utmost importance in the Mini Aussie.

How much exercise do they need?

Australian Shepherds of the miniature variety require moderate amounts of exercise. Although energetic, the mini Aussie’s size enables it to fulfill its exercise requirements somewhat more quickly than larger dogs of similar activity level. They are usually relaxed when inside with their family. Nonetheless, adult Mini Aussies can enjoy more vigorous activities, such as jogging and hiking. Games of fetch or with a flying disk are a terrific way for an adult mini Aussie to exercise. Owners often teach their dogs to play “hide and seek” and offer interesting toys to prevent boredom when they are not able to provide physical exercise. Boredom is the leading cause of destructive behavior and problems such as excessive barking.

Do they shed much? How much grooming is required?

The Australian Shepherd of the miniature variety wears a moderately thick double coat. The undercoat is shed twice yearly and shedding is moderate between these periods, although degree will vary with individual. Regular brushing once or twice a week will help to minimize shedding and keep the skin and coat healthy. The mini Aussie’s coat is not long enough to require heavy daily attention. We DO NOT recommend shaving their coat as it can potentially damage the coat permanently.  Shaving an aussie can also contribute to heat stroke, as their double layered coats actually act as an air conditioner and removing it can cause overheating.  Simple brushing and limited trimming around their bottoms and ears is all that should be needed.

How big will a Mini Australian Shepherd puppy grow to be?

A "Miniature Australian Shepherd" can range from 14 to 18 inches (25 to 45 pounds), although dogs will occasionally mature under or over that size, as a mini is just a regular Australian Shepherd bred down to a smaller size.  Anything under 14 inches at nine months old is considered a "Toy Australian Shepherd" and anything over 18 inches at nine months is considered a standard "Australian Shepherd." A single litter can produce all three size variation.

Where are you located?

We are in Fort Towson, Oklahoma. Located in the far Southeast corner of the state, close to Texas, Arkansas and Louisiana. We are willing to meet within reason!

Are you willing to ship a puppy?

Yes and no.  Its all about the method! Please inquire privately for further information on shipping. We may even be headed your direction sometime soon and are always willing to travel within reason to deliver a puppy.

If I want to purchase a puppy, how much is a deposit?

The price of the deposit is $500, unless otherwise specified, and is non-refundable.

What is included with my puppy?

Your puppy will have its tail docked, dew claws removed and be current on all vaccines, deworming, and be vet checked before it leaves our home. We will also include something from home to go with the puppy to help with the transition to your home (such as a piece of a blanket or a stuffed toy that smells like his or her litter-mates and mom).

Do you do health testing on your dogs?

Yes, we do full panel DNA and orthopedic health testing. We test our dogs using Paw Print Genetics and OFA.  All of our dogs health testing information can be found along with their pedigree by clicking on the link under each dog on the Adults Page.

Do you take PayPal and/or Credit Cards?

Yes, we take PayPal and accept all major credit cards for a 3% processing fee. Contact me if you are interested in paying for your puppy this way and I can get the process started for you. We also accept CashApp, Venmo and Good Dog Pay!

Do you allow visitors to come to your home to pick out a puppy?

NO!  However, we will meet you.  Please inquire for more info and to set up a time to meet us and our dogs in person. We have to be very careful about who and what comes through our door because our puppies and our property could be at risk. Please forgive me for being cautious!

Should something come up and I am no longer able to keep my puppy, will you take it back?

Absolutely! We actually stipulate in our contract that if you can no longer keep your puppy or dog, even at 10 years of age, we want him or her to come back to us. We do not want any of our babies to end up in shelters or bouncing from home to home. No matter what the issue is, we are always happy to have our babies back home.

Where do you raise your puppies?

We raise our Miniature Australian Shepherd puppies on our ranch. We whelp our litters in an indoor kennel with doggy-doors leading to a larger outdoor area. We are involved in every delivery and every litter is closely watched.  We expose our puppies to cats, chickens, livestock, and our toddlers are very involved with every step! It is the best way for us to really get a good feel and understanding as to what each puppy is going to be like, therefore a better opportunity to match the right pup to the perfect home.

What registry do you use?

Our puppies are all able to be registered with American Stock Dog Registry (ASDR), Miniature Australian Shepherd Club of America (MASCA), and International Miniature Australian Shepherd Club (IMASC) as Miniature Australian Shepherds.  *Our dogs are NOT to be registered as Miniature American Shepherds under any circumstance! Doing so changes the breed and violates our contract!

What are the different title abbreviations and what do they mean?

We show in different venues with different requirements, formats, and different titles.   The main two show venues we attend are IABCA (International All Breed Canine Association) and ASDR (American Stock Dog Registry).

IntCH - International Champion (IABCA)

NatCH - National Champion  (IABCA)

HnrCH - Honors Champion (IABCA)

CH1 - Level One Champion (ASDR)

CH2- Level Two Champion (ASDR)

EliteCH - Elite Champion (ASDR)

Do you provide a health guarantee on your puppies?

Yes! Any and all good breeders should! We offer a 72 hour money back health guarantee and a 36 month guarantee free of any genetic defects such as serious eye defects, deafness, or hip dysplasia. Should a problem arise, each situation will be dealt with on a case by case basis.  *Due to the varying kinds of food and different environmental conditions the puppies come in contact with; and the fact that all puppies have immune systems that take time to mature, the terms of this guarantee will not be honored unless they are given NuVet Plus® immune system builder (See Below), as directed by the manufacturer, for the entire guarantee period. Failure to do so will render this guarantee null and void except where prohibited by law.
